RENO, Nev. -- Police arrested two former Nevada Wolf Pack football players late Friday night in Reno.

According to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO), 20-year-old Avery Orlando Poates II is facing two felony charges, one for Attempted Robbery and the second for Assault with a Deadly Weapon. His bail totals $40,000.

20-year-old Anthony Dominic Knight faces the same Attempted Robbery and Assault with a Deadly Weapon charges with an additional misdemeanor charge of Possession of Marijuana (less than an ounce). Knight's bail is set at $40,500.

Reno Police Department (RPD) Sgt. Mike Browett says the arrest was related to an incident in which the victims said they were meeting with Poates and Knight and a third person to exchange sports memorabilia. During the meeting, in the 200 block of Talus Way, the suspects displayed the weapons in an attempt rob the victims. The victims got away unharmed.

RPD officers arrested Poates and Knight during a traffic stop a short time later near Fifth and Arlington in downtown Reno. The third person was not with them at the time.

Just last week, on June 5th according to WCSO, Knight was arrested for Reckless Driving and Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance.

In June of 2012, Knight was arrested for contempt of court charges related to a possession charge dating back to October of 2011.

The RGJ's Dan Hinxman reports both men were released from the Wolf Pack football team this spring.
