PHOENIX - Former Reno Aces second baseman Ryan Roberts has been designated for assignment by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

He was batting .250 in Arizona this season with six home runs and 34 RBI.

Roberts had a great season in the majors last year. He only hit .249, but set career-highs with 19 home runs, 65 RBI and 18 stolen bases.

The Diamondbacks now have 10 days to either trade him, release him or send him back to the minors; most likely Triple-A Reno.

Roberts could also be placed on waivers. The Tampa Bay Rays are rumored to be interested in him.

He last played for the Aces back in 2010 batting .265 with 11 home runs and 65 RBI.
