Rockies, Fowler Agree to Two-Year Deal

DENVER (AP) - Speedy outfielder Dexter Fowler and the Colorado Rockies avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year, $11.6 million contract.

The 26-year-old Fowler gets $3.25 million this year and $7.35 million in 2014. He also will receive a $1 million signing bonus, payable within 15 days of his contract being approved by Major League Baseball. The Rockies announced the deal Monday.

Fowler is coming off a season in which he posted career highs in batting average (.300), RBIs (53), home runs (13) and games (143). Even more, Fowler's speed allows him to track down many a flyball while playing center at spacious Coors Field.

He was selected by Colorado in the 14th round of the 2004 draft.

The Rockies will hold their first full workout on Sunday.
