Rivera: Kaepernick Tougher to Defend This Time

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Panthers coach Ron Rivera says San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick "didn't play that well" in the first meeting against Carolina on Nov. 10.

But Rivera doesn't think he'll see a repeat performance from the third-year quarterback on Sunday when the two teams meet in the NFC divisional playoffs.

Rivera says "I don't expect that again. I expect the young man to come out and play well. He's a good football player and he showed it (Sunday) night" against Green Bay.

Kaepernick threw for 223 yards and a touchdown and ran for 98 yards in a 23-20 win over the Packers.

That's a far cry from his performance against the Panthers, where he was held to 91 yards passing, 16 yards rushing and no touchdowns in a 10-9 Carolina win.
