The Cincinnati Reds signed pitcher Zach Duke on Friday, and released catcher Konrad Schmidt. It was to make room for Duke on their Triple-A roster.
The move was first reported by Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com.
Schmidt was batting just .187 in 28 games with the Louisville Bats, with a home run and five RBI. He had signed a minor-league deal with the Reds this offseason.
He spent the first six years of his career in the Diamondbacks organization. He played for the Aces for three seasons, hitting .277 with 24 doubles, seven home runs and 47 RBI in 2012. He was a Triple-A All-Star in 2011.
Schmidt played college baseball at Nevada.
