Former All-Star closer J.J. Putz will join the Reno Aces to begin a rehabilitation assignment on Thursday.

Jack Macgruder, of Fox Sports Arizona, reports that Putz is also expected to pitch on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday before re-joining the Diamondbacks.

Putz has been on the disabled list since May 8th with a strained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.

He was an All-Star back in 2007, and was named the Rolaids Relief Man of the Year the same season.

Putz has pitched in 14 games this season, making five saves with a 4.26 ERA. He has 188 saves during his 10-year career.
