PROVO, Utah - BYU senior linebacker Kyle Van Noy was named to the preseason All-American first team by Phil Steele's College Football Preview.
Van Noy led the Cougars with 13 sacks last season. He also recorded 22 tackles for loss, eight quarterback hurries, a school record six forced fumbles and two blocked kicks.
He finished with 53 tackles while adding five pass breakups, two interceptions, one fumble recovery and two touchdowns to become the only player in the nation to record a stat in every major defensive category each of the last two seasons.
Van Noy was named to three All-American teams. He was placed on the second team by CBS sports, and the third team by both the Associated Press and Phil Steele's College Football Review.
He was expected to be a high draft pick had he declared, but instead chose to return to BYU for his senior season.
He was the Sports Caravan Stud of the Year his senior season at McQueen High School in Reno.
