RENO, NV - A major win for Reno’s Pop Warner. The Junior Pee-Wee Wolf Pack team has gone undefeated all season, and has the opportunity to play in the Best of the West Championship Game the first weekend of December.
Some of the Wolf Pack players stopped by our studios to show off their trophy.
They’ve only given up 40 points all season, and will be traveling to southern California to play the best teams from California, Washington, Oregon and Arizona.
"Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard,” says quarterback Drew Scolari.
Assistant Head Coach Josh Wood understands this game’s magnitude, but also understands that the expense couldn’t come at a harder time for parents.
"It's probably the worst time of the year for it because of the all the events going on,” Wood says, ”Thanksgiving and Christmas and traveling and all the money going out the door.”
Coach Wood says the total cost to send the team will be around $15,000. They cannot drive, as the team has to be on the field in Temecula at six in the morning Saturday, December 7th and the kids cannot miss school that Friday. This rounds out to about $750 for each player. That’s why Wood is hoping anyone would be willing to donate even one dollar for their travel expenses.
And for player Nathan Brooker, who calls this game like their Pee-Wee Super Bowl, “We really want to go so we could support our community with football, and just win for Reno.”
