Reno Girls Advance, Hug Boys Eliminated at State Tournament

LAS VEGAS - The Reno Huskies girls basketball team will go for their first state title since 2001 on Friday night.

Reno beat Centennial 53-44 in the state semifinal game down in Las Vegas. Mallory McGwire scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win. Savannah Schulze added 11, Shalen Shaw chipped in 10.

Reno (26-3) was the state runner-ups last season, falling to Reed in the title game. They will play Bishop Gorman (21-9) in the championship game on Friday at 6pm.

The Hug Hawks were eliminated by Bishop Gorman 72-52 in the boys semifinal. It was the second year in a row that Hug lost to Gorman at state, falling in last year's title game.

Raymond Kerr led Hug (23-7) with 14 points. Sam Williams added 12 in the loss.
