Protesters Disrupt FIFA Visit To Stadium In Brazil

CUIABA, Brazil (AP) - FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke was met by protesters when he arrived for an inspection visit at a World Cup stadium in Brazil on Tuesday.

A group of about 50 protesters complaining about the costs of the World Cup invaded the construction site of the Arena Pantanal in Cuiaba, chanting and carrying banners against FIFA and the Brazilian government.

The protesters, mostly local teachers, jeered the moment Valcke and other officials arrived to inspect the stadium.

The protest came a day after a series of violent demonstrations in some of Brazil's top cities, including by teachers seeking better pay in Rio de Janeiro. The Confederations Cup earlier this year was marked by a series of violent protests and more is expected during next year's World Cup.
