EL PASO, Texas (AP) - El Paso's new minor league team has a name - and it's one that fans of small dogs and Taco Bell commercials will love.
The team will be called the Chihuahuas.
El Paso officials announced the new name Tuesday. When the Tucson Padres formally move to West Texas next year, they'll play in uniforms bearing the red "Chihuahas name" and with a logo of a small, big-eared brown dog making a grimace.
The Chihuahuas nickname beat out the Aardvarks, Buckaroos, Desert Gators and Sun Dogs.
The San Diego Padres' Triple-A affiliate will play in a $50 million ballpark currently being built.
