Pack Women Sign Transfer Player

RENO, Nev. – Nevada head women’s basketball coach Jane Albright announced the addition of Halie Bergman, a transfer from the University of the Pacific, to complete the four-member class set to join the Wolf Pack squad in 2014-15.

Halie Bergman (Turlock, Calif./Pacific)

Prior to her freshman year at Pacific, Bergman averaged 25.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in three seasons at Turlock Christian High School. She totaled 1,761 points during her high school career, shooting 47 percent from the field. Additionally, Bergman posted 5.0 steals, 4.3 assists and 2.2 blocks per game in her nearly 70 games played.

In her senior year alone, she racked up 792 points, and averaged a double-double for the year with 27.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest. For her play that season, she earned a selection to the MaxPreps All-California District V first team and was named the Modesto Bee All-District Player of the Year.

“Halie is a big, tough guard and is a really excellent shooter and student-athlete. We expect her to come in and contribute right away,” said Albright.

In addition to Bergman, Albright and her coaching staff signed three incoming freshman to National Letters of Intent in the fall. Below is an update of their senior seasons and their accomplishments along the way.

Alejandra Cephas (Antioch, Calif./Deer Valley HS)

The 6-0 forward posted career-high numbers in a slew of categories during her senior season at Deer Valley High School. Cephas shot 49 percent from the field, en route to scoring a total of 222 points for the year. In addition to her scoring, Cephas collected 236 rebounds (9.1 rpg), 33 assists (1.3 apg), 101 steals (3.9 spg) and 116 blocks (4.5 bpg).

For her play during her senior season, she earned North Coast Section All-League first team honors and helped her team capture the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) North Coast Section D1 championship. Deer Valley also reached the regional semifinals of the CIF D1 State Girls Basketball Championship.

Mariah Williams (Fairfield, Calif./Vanden HS)

Williams, a 5-11 guard/forward, tallied 101 points during her senior season, grabbing 63 rebounds, 18 steals and dishing out 18 assists. In her two varsity seasons at Vanden High School, Williams averaged 11.0 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per contest in 40 games played. Her Vanden girls’ basketball team posted a 25-7 overall record in 2013-14 and went a perfect 10-0 in league play.

Vanden entered the San-Joaquin Section Division III bracket as the No. 1 overall seed and reached the Northern California Division III semifinals.

Teige Zeller (Los Lunas, N.M./Los Lunas HS)

Zeller earned a great deal of recognition following her senior season at Los Lunas High School. After leading her team to a runner-up finish in the Class 4A State Basketball Championships, Zeller received her third consecutive All-State selection and was named the District 6-4A Most Valuable Player for the third straight season. She also was recognized as the Class 4A Player of the Year by NMPreps.com and finished as the All-Metro MVP for the second straight year, earning her a spot on the All-Metro first team. The 6-2 forward merited a selection to the 4A/5A Girls Basketball All-Star Game in June.

In her senior season, Zeller averaged 19.1 points per game in 32 games played, shooting above 60 percent from the field. She averaged a double-double for the season as well, posting 12.8 rebounds per contest. For the second year in a row, Zeller was named the All-Metro Defensive Player of the Year after she averaged 4.0 blocks per game.
