DAVIS, Calif. – The University of Nevada (12-12) baseball team lost a nonconference game 4-3 to UC Davis (12-9) at Dobbins Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The loss snapped the Wolf Pack’s three-game winning streak as they fell to 12-12 on the season. The Aggies improved to 12-9 with the victory.
With the game tied at three in the bottom of the 10th inning Mason Novak reached base on an error by Pack shortstop Kyle Hunt. Left fielder Seth Batty double and third baseman Adam Young was intentionally walked to load the bases. Second baseman Steven Patterson’s RBI single to left field gave the Aggies the come from behind 4-3 victory.
Nevada scored single runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings to take a 3-0 lead as Pack starter Jason Deitrich was pitching a shutout. Deitrich allowed just one run on four hits in six innings and received a no decision.
The Pack bullpen was unable to hold the lead as Colby Blueberg allowed two runs in the eighth as the Aggies tied the game at three. Closer Adam Whitt (2-3) was tagged with the loss giving up the unearned run in the bottom of the 10th. Zach Stone (2-1) earned the victory for UCD pitching three shutout innings.
Hunt (2-for-5,R,RBI) and Jordan Devencenzi (2-for-5,RBI) each had two hits and an RBI in the game for Nevada.
Nick Lynch (3-for-3,R,2RBI) finished with game-highs with three hits and two RBI. Young (2-for-3,R) and Patterson (2-for-4,R) contributed two hits apiece.
Nevada is off until Mar. 31 when Grand Canyon University comes to Peccole Park to begin a two-game series with first pitch slated for 6 p.m. Tuesday’s game is scheduled for noon.
