INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Rifle Committee has announced the teams for the 2012 National Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Rifle Championship. The individuals selected to participate will be announced on Thursday.
Hosted by Ohio State, the championships will be held March 9-10 at the Converse Hall and French Field House on the Ohio State campus in Columbus, Ohio.
The top eight teams in both the smallbore three-position and air rifle events were selected based on the average of the three highest regular-season aggregate scores with no more than one match at any given site. The average of the three highest scores was added to the aggregate scores from the designated qualifiers to determine the top eight teams.
Individual and team competitions in smallbore three-position (60 shots) will be held Friday, March 9. Individual and team competitions in air rifle (60 shots) will be held Saturday, March 10. The overall team champion will be determined by combining the smallbore and air rifle team total scores into one aggregate score for each institution.
The last time Nevada’s team participated in the championships was in 2008, finishing in eighth place. Dempster Christenson has represented Nevada in the individual championships the last three years.
“We are delighted to have this opportunity to compete and honored to represent Nevada,” head coach Fred Harvey said. “The team has really performed well this season and the invitation is a credit to the their hard work”.

Bill, I've watched the sport at both the high school, (Galena High took first place in state this year with a perfect season and combined score at the championship)and college level, it is anything but a hobby. These are skilled athletes. I would like to see you shoot the dead center dot of a target the size of a fifty cent piece at 10 meters with open sights, it is truely amazing to watch these athletes.
Not a sport! An activity. Shouldnt be a sports news headlines. Sorry but they arent athletes either. Theyre hobbyists
