RENO, Nev. - Wolf Pack assistant coach James Spady is a finalist for the head coaching job at Southern University.

The school was set to interview Bethune-Cookman coach Brian Jenkins on Thursday, but that meeting has been canceled. Spady and interim Southern head coach Dawson Odums are the two finalists for the job.

A decision is expected on Friday, when Athletic Director William Broussard will make his reccommendation to the Board of Supervisors.

Spady has spent the last three seasons at Nevada, serving as the Tight Ends coach and the Co-Offensive Line coach.

“It’s an honor to be a finalist,” Spady said in a text message to the Advocate on Wednesday night. “However, my focus is right now is on ... beating our opponent, the University of Arizona.”

Nevada (7-5) takes on Arizona (7-5) on Saturday in the New Mexico Bowl. That game will air live on ESPN at 10am.
