Nevada's Dortch Named MWC Pitcher of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following an exceptional weekend in the circle, Nevada softball junior Megan Dortch earned Mountain West Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time in her career.

Dortch’s lights out pitching was vital in helping lift the Wolf Pack to a three-game sweep against visiting New Mexico over the weekend. The 5-8 right-hander tossed the conference’s first no-hitter of the year, and the first of her collegiate career, during an 8-0, six-inning victory for Nevada. Dortch fanned five batters on her way to the no-hit bid.

She continued her strong work in the circle Sunday afternoon in the final game of the series, allowing just four hits and one unearned run in seven innings. During her two starts, Dortch collected nine strikeouts and held Lobo batters to a .091 batting average, yielding just one extra-base hit in 13 innings of work.

This is the third weekly conference award for the Wolf Pack this season as senior Erin Jones and sophomore Amanda Weis picked up MW Hitter of the Week honors earlier this season.

Nevada hits the road to face conference leader San Diego State for a three-game set this weekend (April 4-6). First pitch Friday night is set for 6 p.m.
