Nevada Shut Out by Antelopes

RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada (12-13) baseball team was shut out 4-0 by Grand Canyon University (15-11) on Monday night at Peccole Park. The Wolf Pack dropped to 12-13 while the Antelopes won for the fifth consecutive time and improved to 15-11.

After seven scoreless innings the Lopes scored three times on three hits in the top of the eighth inning. With one down back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases for second baseman Chad De La Guerra who delivered a two-RBI single. A sacrifice bunt by center fielder Matt Haggerty and it was 3-0. GCU added a single run in the top of the ninth to make the final score 4-0.

Michael Fain (3-2) suffered the loss allowing two runs on six hits in 7.1 innings on the mound. Lopes reliever Kyle Detwiler (1-0) earned his first win of the season retiring all nine batters he faced.

Austin Byler (2-for-3) and Brad Gerig (2-for-3) led the Pack with two hits each as the team totaled seven in the game. David Walker (2-for-5,R) and Michael Pomeroy (2-for-3,R) each had two hits and a run scored for GCU. De La Guerra drove in two of the Lopes four runs on the night.

After playing GCU tomorrow the Pack will take on the Reno Aces at 6:05 p.m. at Aces Ballpark in the annual exhibition contest. That game will not be broadcast.
