Nevada Places Five on All-Conference Swimming & Diving Teams

RENO, Nev. – Five University of Nevada swimmers or divers were named to the 2013 Mountain West All-Conference Team on Tuesday, earning a total of 14 honors.

The list was comprised of swimmers Mengjiao Mi, Gabby Guieb and Yawen Li and divers Stephanie Hansen and En Tien Huang.

All-conference selections are awarded to the top eight finishers in the individual events and top three relay team finishers at the MW Championships. On Saturday, Feb. 23, the Conference announced the Mountain West individual awards. Hansen was named the Women’s Diver of the Year and Wolf Pack head diving coach Jian Li You was named Women’s Diving Coach of the Year.

Mi, a senior, swept the freestyle events she swam at the conference championships, earning all-MW honors in the 200, 500 and 1,650-yard freestyle. She set two MW Championships records, including a time of 4:43.10 to win the 500 and a time of 1:46.36 to win the 200.

Li, a freshman, finished second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:12.74, seventh in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.57 and fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:12.78. Guieb’s fifth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, at 2:01.57, earned the senior all-conference honors as well.

On the diving board, Hansen and Huang were each named all-conference in all three disciplines. Hansen’s scores were good enough for first in the one meter (306.99), second in the three meter (336.75) and first in the platform (270.27). Huang finished eighth in the one-meter at 269.94, first in the three-meter at 339.30 and third in the platform event at 252.63.
