Mattingly Could Get Ind. Hometown Street Naming

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Officials in the Indiana hometown of baseball great Don Mattingly are planning to name a city street after him.

The proposal would put the Don Mattingly Way name on the street outside the city's Bosse Field baseball stadium.

The City Council was set to vote on the resolution this week, but it was put on hold. Councilman Conor O'Daniel tells the Evansville Courier & Press that officials must sort out which city board should take up the renaming.

Mattingly is now the Los Angeles Dodgers manager and is a former New York Yankees star. He led the Evansville Memorial team to an Indiana high school championship in 1978.

Bosse Field opened in 1915 and was a filming site for the 1992 film "A League of Our Own."
