Jordan Carter just finished his freshman year at Spanish Springs High School, but already he's earned the opportunity of a lifetime. Carter has been selected to attend The First Tee Life Skills and Leadership Academy later this month in San Diego.

"I'm very excited because other than just playing golf, I'm going to be visiting exciting places like the San Diego Zoo," said Carter. "(I'm) very excited about that, and meeting a lot of new people and I'm going to meet with a bunch of golf professionals. It's just going to be really fun."

The week-long event provides golf lessons from some of the top coaches in the nation, and also teaches participants some valuable life skills.

"Integrity, honesty, it's going to be really fun," said Carter.

"He had to answer three questions about golf and his personal ethics, and different things that he can take from his golf game and apply towards every day life," said Carter's mother Liz. "And then he also logged a bunch of volunteer hours working through The First Tee and working through his high school."

Of the more than 90 junior golfers participating in this event, Jordan is the only one from the state of Nevada.

"It's an honor really," Carter said. "I was very excited and I was very surprised that I was the only one. I was very excited."

"It means a lot to me," said Liz Carter. "I'm sure it means more to him, but it's amazing that through his hard work and his dedication that he was given this honor."
