PHOENIX (AP) - A former soldier and amateur athlete who lost a leg to a roadside bomb blast in Iraq says golf has become both therapy and a passion.

Once a college baseball player, Chad Pfeifer took up golf while rehabbing at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. Since then he's won the George W. Bush Presidential Center's Warrior Open three times.

The Arizona Republic reports that Pfeifer has been invited to play in the American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe, Calif., in July.

He will be in the field of 80 professional athletes and entertainers competing for $600,000 in prize money.

Pfeifer is now a golf pro at a course in Goodyear, Ariz., and says it's cool to be in the Tahoe event's lineup.
