LONDON (AP) - UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Lazio after its fans reportedly directed racial abuse at Tottenham players during their Europa League match on Thursday.

British media said monkey chants were directed at Jermain Defoe, Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend during the 0-0 draw.

UEFA says in a statement that proceedings were opened against Lazio for "improper conduct" by its supporters. The case will be heard on Oct. 18.

On Friday, Bulgarian club Levski Sofia said it has been fined $39,000 by UEFA for racist abuse by their fans at a Europe League match against Bosnian team Sarajevo in July.
