PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - An auction of items from former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's failed video game company has begun, with early bidders snatching up swords, lamps and even a wheelchair left behind when 38 Studios collapsed.

Hundreds of people attended Tuesday's auction at the company's former Providence headquarters. The auction is expected to last at least through the day.

Rhode Island lured 38 Studios from Massachusetts with a $75 million loan guarantee. The company filed for bankruptcy in June, and the state is likely on the hook for some $100 million.

The auctioneer joked that he's hoping to raise $75 million - but the actual amount is expected to be far less. An auction last week at a Maryland gaming studio bought by 38 Studios grossed $180,000.
