German Team Withdraws From Youth America's Cup

BERLIN (AP) - A sailing team from Germany has dropped out of the America's Cup youth regatta in San Francisco following an accident in which a star British sailor was killed.

The German team cited safety concerns. The team's sports director, Klaus Lahme, said in a statement Monday the team wanted to avoid risking the health and Olympic ambitions of its athletes after last week's accident.

The decision will not affect the main race, in which four professional teams are to compete.

Olympic gold medalist Andrew "Bart" Simpson died when the Swedish boat of Artemis Racing capsized Thursday. Competition officials Tuesday are set to discuss the latest findings in their investigation.
