MANCHESTER, England (AP) - The head of Team Sky says Chris Froome will lead the British team at this year's Tour de France, affecting Bradley Wiggins' hopes of successfully defending the title.
Team principal Dave Brailsford says Monday that "given Chris' step up in performances this year, our plan, as it has been since January, is to have him lead the Tour de France team."
Wiggins said last week that he was hoping to pull off a rare Giro d'Italia-Tour de France double this year. Wiggins helped Sky win the team time trial on Sunday.
Brailsford says the decision for the race this summer will be "evidence-based" but "it is crucial there is clarity of purpose and for that reason we will go to the Tour with one leader."
