Freshmen Lead Pack Softball to Shutout Over Seattle

RENO, Nev. – The Nevada softball team got six strong innings from McKenna Isenberg and three RBI from Nikki Orozco as the Wolf Pack shut out Seattle 6-0 on Sunday to close out play in the Nevada Classic.

Nevada improved to 12-9 overall with the win while Seattle fell to 10-15.

Isenberg improved to 6-2 as the freshman went six strong innings, scattering three hits and giving up three walks with one strikeout. Karlyn Jones has a clean sheet in the seventh to finish things up.

Nevada got all of its offense in two frames with four in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

Erin Jones led off the fourth with a single and Ashley Butera reached on an error to put two on nobody out. Jasmine Jenkins reached on a bunt single and Jones came around to score on a throwing error on the play. After Butera scored on a ground out, Sara Parsons doubled to right-center to put runners on second and third with one out. Orozco plated both with a single to left-center and Nevada led 4-0.

Butera led off the fifth with her third home run of the season and Orozco doubled in another run in the frame to close out the scoring.

In the first game of the day, UCSB topped Seattle as the Gauchos went unbeaten during the weekend.

Nevada will be back in action on Wednesday with a doubleheader against Sacramento State at Hixson Park. First pitch is at 1 p.m. and the games will be broadcast at on the Mountain West Network.
