FREMONT, Calif. (AP) - A 19-year-old Fremont man has been convicted of second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of a Newark high school football player outside a house party last year.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Abraham Hade was convicted by an Alameda County Superior Court jury Thursday.

The victim, 18-year-old Osana Futi, was found stabbed on April 28, 2012 after police responded to reports of gunshots and a loud party in Fremont. He was pronounced dead at the hospital and Hade was arrested shortly thereafter.

Futi was a star running back and linebacker for Newark Memorial High School and was getting ready to graduate.

Prosecutors said Hade led a local gang associated with the Nortenos. He will face 16 years to life in prison when he is sentenced on May 31.
