Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Mountain West announced the 2014 Women’s Outdoor Track and Field All-Conference selections and the Wolf Pack had four athletes receive honors following the Mountain West Outdoor Conference Championships in Laramie, Wyo. Freshman Leah Carter, sophomore Emily Myers, sophomore Alison Powers, and sophomore Raffaela Wiesbeck received All-Mountain West First Team honors.

Leah Carter finished third at the conference championship in the high jump by clearing 5’8”, her personal best. Raffaela Wiesbeck had her best performance of the season at the conference championships throwing the javelin 156’1” to finish in second place overall. Emily Myers raced her first 10,000-meter of her career in Laramie, and finished in third place overall with a time of 38:15.03. Alison Powers had a career day in the pole vault clearing 12’6.25” to finish in third place, and receive All-Conference recognition.

“We had quite a few kids perform highly at the conference championships despite the fact that we were not in the hunt for a team championship. For them to step up in such a strong way without competing for a team championship says a lot about each athlete. Alison was the dark horse of those who returned with medals and All-Conference honors, making such a big jump in her performance competing against athletes who have cleared marks to qualify for the NCAA First round. The way that everyone competed was truly first class.” – Head Coach Shantel Twiggs.

“Emily is coachable and trains very hard. She has really improved her racing this year, and is a much better racer than she was at the start of the season. Her progression is on an upward trajectory that will help her build in the future. She races very well in big meets and that a good thing for any athlete.” – Assistant Coach Kirk Elias.

“It was not a surprise for us to see everyone have big performances. Our training has shown that we are ready to perform well, and we know that we are capable of more marks like those that we hit at the conference championships. For Leah Carter and Alison Powers to earn Mountain West honors this early in their career are something to be proud of, and hopefully it leads to more down the road.” – Assistant Coach Scott Williamson
