KANSAS CITY - Former Wolf Pack catcher Brett Hayes broke out of his season-long slump in a big way on Wednesday.

Hayes went 2-for-4 with a home run in the Royals' 9-3 loss to the Astros.

Hayes came into the game hitless this season, going without a hit in his first 27 at-bats.

He's now batting .067 this year. He's a .208 career hitter with 10 home runs and 30 RBI in parts of five big league seasons.

Hayes was named first team All-WAC three times and a freshman All-American at Nevada.
