SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Former San Francisco 49er Kwame Harris is facing felony domestic violence and assault charges from an August beating involving an ex-boyfriend.
San Mateo County Assistant District Attorney Al Serrato says a judge on Monday set an April 27 trial date for the 30-year-old Harris, an offensive tackle who played five seasons with the 49ers and one season with the Oakland Raiders.
Serrato says the charges stem from an altercation outside a Menlo Park restaurant between Harris and Dimitri Geier, who suffered several facial fractures that required surgery.
The prosecutor says the domestic violence charge is appropriate because the two men used to live together as romantic partners.
Harris has pleaded not guilty.
Defense lawyer Alin Cintean says Harris acknowledges he and Geier once were a couple, but says he struck Geier in self-defense
