RENO, Nev. — The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today that they selected the contracts of LHP Andrew Chafin and OF Xavier Paul, and both players will join the team in Arizona.
Chafin will be making his Major League debut with the Diamondbacks, and he’ll become the eighth Aces player to make his first big league appearance this season.
Chafin started 14 games for the Aces and was 4-5 with a 5.40 ERA. He went seven innings and allowed three runs on eight hits to earn the win in his Triple-A debut on May 23.
Paul played just one game in Reno after signing as a free agent on Thursday. He went 0-for-4 with a sacrifice fly in Reno’s 7-5 win last night.
In corresponding moves, the Diamondbacks announced they optioned INF Nick Ahmed and OF Roger Kieschnick to Reno.
In 74 games with the Aces this season, Kieschnick is hitting .268 with 11 home runs and 34 RBIs. He hit .195 in 25 games for Arizona.
Ahmed, who made his Major League debut on June 29, was hitting .228 in 19 games with the Diamondbacks. He hit .324 with 36 RBIs and 40 runs scored in 79 games for the Aces before getting called up.
In addition, the Aces announced today that RHP Zeke Spruill was activated from the 7-Day DL, and RHP Will Harris was activated from the inactive (suspended) list. RHP Bradin Hagens was transferred from Double-A Mobile to Reno, and OF Dustin Martin was transferred from Reno to Double-A Mobile.
