PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks released slugger Wily Mo Pena on Sunday.

Pena was designated for assignment last week, and cleared waivers on Wednesday. He played in 17 games with Arizona this season, batting just .196 with seven RBI. But he did have five home runs in onlyat-bats.

Pena was perhaps the best hitter in Reno Aces franchise history. He was leading the Pacific Coast League in both home runs and RBI at the time of his call-up. He batted .363 with 21 homers and 63 RBI in 63 games with Triple-A Reno. He also had 17 doubles and three triples.
