Chow To Face BYU Team He Coached For 27 years

PROVO, Utah (AP) - Norm Chow's game-day jogs have slowed a bit now that he's 66, yet Hawaii's first-year coach already knows his return to BYU for a nationally televised contest won't be a walk in the park.

The BYU matchup has stirred up memories for the former longtime Cougar offensive coordinator, who sparked controversy earlier this year when he said a returning missionary could transfer anywhere but Provo and hinted at tampering.

While Chow insists he's focused now on his own team following a 45-point loss to Nevada, Friday night's game will be his first as a head coach against BYU, where he spent 27 years and helped the Cougars win a national championship.

BYU has its own problems as it deals with stinging back-to-back losses, a quarterback quandary and other offensive woes.
