RENTON, Wash. (AP) - Pete Carroll doesn't look back on his time as the head coach in New England with any animosity, because the way that experience changed him eventually led to his success at USC and another chance in the NFL with Seattle.
Carroll revisits some of his NFL past this week when the Seahawks host the Patriots on Sunday in a matchup between Seattle's No. 1 ranked defense and New England's top-rated offense.
It's an opportunity for Carroll to reflect on his last NFL stop before his arrival in Seattle in 2009. Carroll coached the Patriots for three seasons before getting fired in 1999. While he was embarrassed by being dismissed, the circumstances behind his firing provided him with lessons he carried into the jobs that followed.
