Bighorns Run By 87ers in Showcase Opener

RENO – Brandon Heath scored the final six points of the 3-minute overtime to propel the Reno Bighorns to a 108-103 victory over the Delaware 87ers in the opening game of the 2014 NBA D-League Showcase Presented by Samsung Galaxy.

Heath’s fade away jumper with just over a minute to play in overtime gave Reno the lead for good at 104-103. He finished with 19 points and eight assists.

Mo Charlo recorded a game-high 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead the way for the Bighorns. K.C. Rivers collected 21 points of his own to help Reno rally in the fourth-quarter.

Delaware and Reno played an even first-half as the game was knotted up at 50 going to into the break. Lorenzo Brown recorded 10 points and seven assists the first-half and Mfon Udofia came off the bench to score 13 points in the second quarter. Brown finished with a double-double, notching 17 points and 10 assists and Udofia finished with 15 points on 5-for-6 shooting.

Delaware opened up a 70-62 lead in the third quarter behind a 10-0 run that was snapped on a midrange jumper courtesy of Ra’Shad James who was fouled and connected on the following free-throw for a traditional 3-point play with 2:40 to play in the third quarter.

The 87ers took a 74-69 lead into the fourth quarter and sustained a lead until DeQuan Jones tied the game up with a 3-pointer at 93 with 3:27 to play in the fourth. Jones also connected moments later on another 3-pointer to give Reno the lead once again at 99-96.

Delaware wouldn’t go quietly as Brown and Damian Saunders tied the game up at 99 on free-throws to put the game into overtime. Charlo broke the tie with the opening basket in overtime before Heath helped lock up the win for Reno.

Reno will return to action on Wednesday when they take on the Springfield Armor at 7 P.M. EST. Delaware will open up the action on Thursday versus the Texas Legends at 10 A.M.
