RENO, Nev. – Nevada Hall of Famers Kirk Triplett and Michael Allen are among 10 former Wolf Pack golfers who will return to Reno this weekend for the program’s inaugural Nevada Golf Alumni Matches this weekend.
Triplett and Allen will joined fellow Pack alums Matt Woodhead, Mark Gilmartin, Kevin Hall, Scott Smith, Jared Becher, Rick Vaughn, Rich Barcelo and Dean Menante for a unique exhibition event competing against the current Nevada team. After a dinner on Saturday night, the alums will face the Wolf Pack with a two-man best-ball event and an individual match play event beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday at ArrowCreek Country Club.
“This is going to be a special event,” Wolf Pack golf coach Jacob Wilner said. “We have some great alums out there and to have these 10 guys come back for an event like this is amazing.”
Triplett has a combined six wins on the PGA, Nationwide and Champions Tour, including last week’s Champions event, the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach. He was inducted into the Nevada Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000. Allen, who was inducted last month, won once in Europe and once on the Nationwide Tour before four Champions Tour events, including a major at the 2009 Senior PGA Championship.
“This is going to be a great competition for our team, to go up against this level of talent,” Wilner said. “We have Hall of Famers in Kirk and Michael and three other touring pros in Smith, Becher and Barcelo. Having said that, this event is more than just the competition. It is about several generations of Nevada golfers getting together for a memorable experience.”
