Aces Sting Bees with Ninth Inning Walk-off Win

RENO, Nev.— The Reno Aces completed their four-game series against the Salt Lake Bees in style Sunday afternoon with a walk-off victory at Aces Ballpark.

After the Bees tied the game in the top of the ninth inning, Alfredo Marte singled home Ender Inciarte from second to give Reno a 7-6 victory.

The win gave Reno its second-straight walk-off win to end a homestand.

Reno led for most of the game after it scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning, thanks to an Andy Marte two-run homer to left field. It was Marte’s first home run of the season and his first two RBI since April 10.

The Aces added four more in the fourth frame. After Mike Jacobs doubled just behind third base, Blake Lalli drove him home with a single to center field. Three batters later, Nick Ahmed drove home Lalli, and Ender Inciarte followed with a double down the right field line that drove in Marte and Ahmed.

Reno starter Bo Schultz held the Bees off the board for most of the game, retiring 10 consecutive at one point. Shultz allowed three runs, two of which were earned, on seven hits through 6 1/3 innings but had to settle with a no decision.

Salt Lake got its offense going in the seventh, starting with a leadoff triple by C.J. Cron. Jimmy Swift, John Hester and Drew Heid all recorded an RBI in the inning, and Matt Long capped the frame with a two-run home run that made the score 6-5.

In the ninth, Salt Lake put runners on the corners with one out, but Reno was able to get the runner on third when Grant Green grounded back to the pitcher Jess Todd. Still, the Bees wouldn’t go away, and eventually tied the game on a bases-loaded walk by Cron.

Inciarte led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to center field, and Didi Gregorius advanced him to second with a sacrifice bunt. Marte’s single plated Inciarte to end the game and move the Aces back to .500.

Todd got the win despite also getting his first blown save of the year.

Reno heads south to take on in-state rival Las Vegas tomorrow to start a four-game set. RHP Zeke Spruill (0-1, 6.30) makes his first start of the year for Reno, and LHP Dana Eveland (2-0, 5.28) gets the nod for Las Vegas. Every game of the four-game series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
