Reno, Nev.— The Albuquerque Isotopes jumped out to an early lead Monday night and rode it to a 4-2 victory on a beautiful night at Aces Ballpark.
Albuquerque used three straight hits in the top of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead over the Aces. Clint Robinson’s single to center field drove home Joc Pederson and Jaime Romak, but Robinson got caught between first and second trying to stretch it to second on the throw. Robinson finished the night 3-for-5 with three singles.
The crowd thought the Aces answered in the bottom of the second, but a towering fly ball from Blake Lalli (@BlakeLalli) was grabbed at the fence by Nick Buss, just inches from the top of the wall.
Albuquerque stretched its lead to three in the third inning when Pederson scored on a single by Robinson and throwing error by Aces second baseman Nick Ahmed (@NickAhmed_).
Reno got on the board in the sixth inning, thanks to a triple by Didi Gregorius (@DidiG18), who scored when Cody Ross (@IamCodyRoss) grounded out to the shortstop.
Pederson answered in the next frame for the Isotopes with a solo home run, his second of the season. He finished 2-for-3 with two walks and three of Albuquerque’s four runs on the night.
Reno managed to put one more across in the bottom of the ninth when Roger Kieschnick doubled to right field for his first hit as a member of the Aces. Kieschnick’s double plated Mike Jacobs from first base, but Lalli popped out to second baseman Walter Ibarra in shallow right field to end the game during the next at-bat.
The two teams meet again tomorrow in a matinee at Aces Ballpark. RHP Alex Sanabia (@sanabia28) gets the start for Reno, and Red Patterson will get the ball for Albuquerque. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
