RENO, Nev.—Reno Aces third baseman Matt Davidson has been selected to participate in the 2013 IGT Home Run Derby on Monday, July 15, to be held at Aces Ballpark, the organization announced today.
Davidson leads all active Aces batters with 12 home runs this season. In his last home game, Davidson blasted two long balls out of the park as Reno’s designated hitter.
Brock Peterson of the Memphis Redbirds, who leads the Pacific Coast League with 20 home runs this season, and Johnny Monell of the Fresno Grizzlies, whose 15 blasts are tied for the most in the league by a catcher, will round out the PCL squad for the Derby.
Chris Colabello of Rochester, Mauro Gomez of Buffalo and Ernesto Mejia of Gwinnett will swing for the fences representing the International League.
Kody Reynolds, who recently graduated from McQueen High School in Reno, earned the chance to compete with the sluggers as part of the Northern Nevada High School Home Run Derby.
The Home Run Derby is just one part of an exciting week for Davidson who, along with teammate Chris Owings, has been chosen to participate in the SiriusXM Futures Game, as well as the starting squad for the 2013 Dolan Auto Group All-Star Game. Reno catcher Tuffy Gosewisch was also selected as a reserve for the PCL squad.
