Aces Cruise Past Grizzlies for Fourth Straight Win

RENO, Nev.— In his first home start with the Reno Aces, Lucas Harrell flirted with a shutout and eventually earned his first win with the Aces, as Reno beat Fresno, 6-2 Sunday afternoon at Aces Ballpark.

Harrell allowed just one run on five hits through 7.2 innings and struck out five. The Grizzlies’ lone run came with two outs in the eighth inning when Tony Abreu singled to right field on a line drive that barely made it over Didi Gregorius’ outstretched glove.

Reno jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Andy Marte led off the inning with a towering home run to left-center field. Roger Kieschnick then singled and Aaron Cunningham reached on a walk.

Two batters later, Nick Ahmed drove home Kieschnick on a double to right field. After Harrell grounded out, Tony Campana drove in Cunningham with a single to left field.

The Aces added another run in the third when Nick Evans cashed in Gregorius’ leadoff triple with an RBI-ground out. It was Evans’ fourth-consecutive game with an RBI.

Harrell took over from there, at one point retiring 12 Fresno batters in a row, after he had retired six straight earlier in the game.

Fresno eventually got on the board with Abreu’s single in the eighth, and added another with a home run from Andrew Susac in the ninth.

Nick Ahmed was the only Aces player to record a multi-hit game. He finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. It was Ahmed’s second three-hit game this season, and Reno’s 18th as a team.

Seven Aces players recorded a hit in the game, and six different players scored a run.

The Aces will look to win the series tomorrow night and will send RHP Charles Brewer (2-5, 6.81) to the mound. Fresno will counter with LHP Edwin Escobar (1-3, 4.89). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
