ATHENS, Greece (AP) - Freddy Adu says he's confident his game will pick up in Greece despite a spotty career in Europe.
The 20-year-old American forward joined Greek club Aris on Jan. 6 on an 18-month loan from Benfica, where he had struggled to establish himself. He had previously been loaned to smaller Portuguese club Belenenses.
Adu said at a news conference Thursday that he has no regrets about leaving the U.S. to play in Europe. He said he's grateful to Aris coach Hector Cuper, the Argentine who has previously managed in Spain and Italy.
Aris hosts league leader Panathinaikos on Sunday, when Adu hopes to make his debut.
Adu is vying for a spot on the U.S. national team, which will head to its sixth straight World Cup appearance in June in South Africa.
