MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) - Defending champion Serena Williams has won her second-round match at the Australian Open, beating Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-1.
Williams, who beat Dinara Safina in last year's final, clinched the match on her second match point in just over an hour.
The 28-year-old American wore a thick white bandage around her upper right thigh. Last week, she said she injured her left knee at the Sydney International, where she lost the final to Olympic champion Elena Dementieva, and said she has been bothered by a foot problem.
