SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Adrian Oliver scored 29 points and had seven rebounds, leading San Jose State to a 78-68 victory over UC Irvine on Monday night.
Mac Peterson added 13 points for the Spartans (7-5), while C.J. Webster and Justin Graham had 10 points apiece.
Eric Wise led Irvine (6-6) with a career-high 31 points. Senior guard Michael Hunter added 19 to become the 19th player in school history to score at least 1,000 points in his career. He entered the game with 999.
San Jose State opened the second half with an 8-1 run to build a 49-36 lead. Oliver drained a 3-point shot and had a driving layup during the spurt, while Webster had a three-point play.
The Spartans pushed their lead to 59-44 on Robert Owens' 3-pointer with 12:47 to play.
The Anteaters later put together a 7-0 run to pull within 61-53, but they never got any closer.
Center Chris Oakes, the Spartans' leading rebounder this season, was reinstated by the NCAA on Monday after missing three games while an eligibility issue involving his transfer in 2007 from Pepperdine was resolved. Oakes, who entered the game averaging 11.4 rebounds and 10.3 points, came off the bench to score six points and grab four rebounds.
Oliver, who was 9 of 18 from the field and 4 of 6 from 3-point range, scored 13 points in the first half, lifting San Jose State to a 41-35 lead at intermission.
