HIDALGO, TEXAS – Ernest Scott hit three three-pointers in the final minutes with Basketball Hall-of-Famer Clyde Drexler, one of a crowd of 4,429, watching to lead the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to a 103-95 victory over the Reno Bighorns tonight at Dodge Arena.

Mike Harris hit the Vipers’ (7-3) first three baskets en route to 17 first half points while Houston Rockets-assignee Joey Dorsey scored 19 points and ripped down 12 rebounds to help the Vipers build a 60-46 lead. The inside presence helped to open up the outside shooters, who struggled over the weekend at Tulsa, as the Vipers hit 6-of-14 three-pointers (42.9%) in the first half.

The Vipers were up 34-33 with 7:56 to go in the second quarter, but went on a 15-2 run to take a 49-37 lead with 3:36 to go.

The Bighorns (4-5) opened the third quarter on an 8-0 run as Rod Benson hit a basket, former-Viper Desmon Farmer hit two free throws, Mo Charlo hit a lay-up and former-Viper Marcus Hubbard made a lay-up, but third-year Viper Stanley Asumnu hit a jumper at the 8:19 mark to end the run and make it 62-54. Undeterred, Farmer scored the next five points to get Reno within one possession for the first time since they were up 34-33. In response, Dorsey elevated for what Drexler described as a “thunderous dunk,” while giving color commentary during the Vipers radio broadcast, to make it 64-59 with 5:26 remaining.

The Bighorns took a 67-66 lead after Charlo hit a pair of free throws, but Jonathan Wallace hit a jumper and Antonio Anderson drove the lane for a dunk followed by a lay-up on the ensuing the possession as the Vipers took a 72-67 lead.

The Vipers continue this three-game home stand on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. when they host the Austin Toros at Dodge Arena. Acrobat Fletcher Runyan will perform at halftime.
