Former Aces Slugger Whitesell Becomes Free-Agent

PHOENIX -- Once dubbed the future of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Josh Whitesell is now looking for a new team.

The Diamondbacks declined to tender the former Aces slugger a contract on Saturday, making him a free-agent.

Whitesell was the Diamondbacks' 2008 Minor League Player Of The Year and hit .293 with eight home runs and 58 RBI in 63 games with the Aces last season.

However, the 27-year-old struggled in the majors. Whitesell hit just .194 with one home run and 14 RBI in 46 games with the Diamondbacks.

Reports out of Arizona indicate he became expendable with the emergence of another Aces alum: first baseman Brandon Allen.
