UNR Top Overall Atheltic Program in WAC

The University of Nevada is being honored for having the top overall athletic program in the Western Athletic Conference this year.

Fueled by the men's basketball championship as well as men's golf and women's swimming and soccer, it marks the first time the school has captured the WAC's Commissioner Cup.

The Wolf Pack tallied 93-and-one-half total points based on standings and performance in post-season tourneys. Boise State was seven points back in second place.

Nevada Athletic Director Cary Growth says it is a tremendous accomplishment and a tribute to the hard work of all the student-athletes, coaches and staff.

She says the school is enjoying an unprecedented era of success in all of its sports.

In addition to the regular season men's basketball title, the men's golf team won the WAC tournament title and the women's teams did the same in soccer and swimming and diving.

Nevada's baseball team and softball team both advanced to the league championship games before losing. The Wolf Pack were second at the cross-country and outdoor track championships and made semifinal appearances in women's basketball, men's tennis and women's tennis.

The football team earned a post-season bowl berth for the second year in a row.
