CARSON CITY - Known for making big plays on offense all season, Eric Howsley came up with play of his life....on defense.
Howsley tripped up Carson's Dylan Sawyers on the two-yard line in overtime to give Galena (8-4) a 14-7 upset win over the Senators (9-3) in the 4A Northern Semifinals.
Galena scored the go-ahead touchdown on its first possession of overtime when Beau Bickel completed a rollout pass to Garrett Shutt on third and long inside the Carson 15-yard line.
Carson had a chance to win the game in regulation, but Ean Witter's 38-yard field goal went wide of the right upright.
Galena plays Reed (10-2) next Friday night at Damonte Ranch high school. The winner advances to the 4A State Tournament.
