After 25 consecutive trips to the Women's NCAA basketball tournament, an invitation to the NIT was beneath Louisiana Tech.
Nevada, on the other hand, can't wait to get there.
Thanks to the Lady Bulldogs' decision to decline the invite, the Wolf Pack women will make their first appearance in a postseason tournament in school history when they meet Wyoming in the first round of the NIT Thursday night.
The 17-4 Wolf Pack will play the 21-6 Cowgirls at 6 pm at Laramie, Wyoming.
Nevada's players and coaches thought their season was over after
losing to New Mexico State in WAC Tournament last week.
Boise State won the title so automatically qualified for the NCAA tourney. Louisiana Tech was the runner-up so had rights to the WAC's automatic bid to the NI-, but decided against it.
That meant third-place Nevada wasn't done with the season afterall.
Wolf Pack Coach Kim Gervasoni says Louisiana Tech has to make it's own decision, but from her point of view, her team couldn't pass it up.
She says it's a great opportunity for her seniors to keep playing as well as for her underclassmen to find out what the
post-season is all about.
