Wolf Pack Golf Teams Fare Well at Giustina Memorial Classic

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The University of Nevada's men's and women's golf teams finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively, at the Giustina Memorial Classic. The tournament was held Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 28-29 at the par 72 Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis.

Nevada's men came in fourth with a tournament total of four-over 868. The Wolf Pack shot combined scores of 283 and 289 in rounds one and two on Monday. Today, in round three the Wolf Pack carded a 296. The Wolf Pack women's team came in fifth for the tournament shooting 71-over 935 (308-317-310). Oregon took first in both the men's and women's team competition carding 20-under 844 (282-283-279) for the men and 32-over 896 (296-302-298) for the women.

Senior Jared Becher (66-71-76) and junior Scott Smith (71-68-74) led the men's team to finish in a tie for eighth at three-under 213. Becher carded a six-under 66 in round one on Monday to tie his own career low round and match the sixth lowest round in Nevada history. Seniors Travis Esway (72-78-72) and Ryan Hallisey (74-72-76) came in a tie for 24th at six-over 222. Esway shot even par in rounds one and three, while Hallisey shot an even par 72 in round two. Senior Taylor Coffman rounded out the men's team in a tie for 43rd at 17-over 233 (76-83-74).

For the women, freshman Jamie Yam was the team leader finishing in a tie for eighth at 13-over 229 (73-82-74). Sophomore Eugenia Guerra followed in a tie for 14th carding a tournament total of 17-over 233 (77-79-77). Junior Lauren Hernandez also placed in the top 20 finishing 20th at 18-over 314 (76-81-77). Ana Patricia de la Maza came in tied for 32nd carding 16-over 242 (84-79-79). Rounding out the women's side is freshman Louise Yi. Yi shot a tournament total of 28-over 244 (77-85-82).

Washington State's Trent Sanders (68-68-71=207) and Oregon's Kendra Little (73-69-72=214) finished in first for men and women individual fields.

Following the Giustina Memorial Classic the Wolf Pack men's team will host the Anuual Wolf Pack Classic at Wolf Run G.C. Oct 5-6th as the women's team heads to the Heather Farr/CU Memorial at Erie, Colo.
