HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii receiver Greg Salas has had his way so far this season, with 20 catches for a nation-leading 479 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
It's early, but he's on pace to break the Warriors' season record of 1,713 yards, set by Ashley Lelie in 2001.
Salas led Hawaii last year with 57 catches for 831 yards, but the Warriors chose to move him from the outside to the inside slot position.
Salas admits he was initially worried about the transition. But not any more.
Nine of Salas' 20 receptions have been for 20 yards or more. In each of the first three games, he has a reception longer than 50 yards.
Hawaii (2-1) is off Saturday and will open Western Athletic Conference play at Louisiana Tech (1-2) on Wednesday.
